Introduction
This one-hour continuing education course for architects, engineers, landscape architects and interior designers discusses the forms, species and types of commercial hardwood and softwood varieties available from commercial establishments, both wholesale and retail. In a broad sense, commercial lumber is any lumber that is bought or sold in the normal channels of commerce. Most commercial lumber is graded by standardized rules that make purchasing more or less uniform throughout the country.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course you will have a better understanding of commercial lumber, including:
• Grades and standard dimensions of factory hardwood and softwood lumber;
• Finished market products;
• Yard lumber, select lumber and factory and shop lumber;
• Lumber manufacture, including size, surfacing and patterns;
• Purchase considerations, and;
• Nomenclature and abbreviations.
Qualifies for one credit hour of Health, Safety and Welfare (1 PDH; 0.1 CEU).
