Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, you will:
- Recognize your role as a supervisor as one that creates various methods of reward and recognition for employees
- Learn how to motivate your employees so they will become involved in the reward and recognition process
- Learn the importance of positive reinforcement through instruction, examination and reflection and how to use it on a personal and company wide level
- Learn how to use focus groups, gather feedback, create program budgets and the implementation of events and promotions
Introduction
Reward is a strong motivator. Life would be nothing but drudge without it and the workplace can definitely be a better place with it. A good Supervisor should recognize this and dispense rewards and recognition with ease and sincerity. It does no good if reward and recognition seems forced or disingenuous when spoken. However, when recognition and rewards are spoken with sincerity, these words become things. Let your words be positive things.
By creating “focus groups” with employees, everyone can get a clear picture of where you stand. Just the fact that is open to discussion leaves the positive impression that YOU, the supervisor, are genuinely interested in conveying your appreciation and doing so in a way that they themselves can decide.
You should use the guidelines and instruction in this course as a template or a springboard for your own creative output. Run with it! But as in all things, use taste and decorum. Sloppy or mismanaged programs can be counterproductive. Planning and organization are important.
Keep this course with you as a reference when considering new programs or promotions.
